Brilliant night

PLEASE add my thanks and admiration to the many others you will have received for the splendid Bonfire Night procession and magnificent firework display on Saturday.

It was a particular delight to have the steam engines gather in my street prior to moving off.

That The Green and the streets were cleared up so promptly and effectively afterwards is a further credit to the Bonfire Society and its volunteers and to our town council.

The society more than deserves to have made its target of £8,000 raised. Did they? If not, that is to Littlehampton’s shame.

John Morris,

Maltravers Drive,

Littlehampton

Editor’s note: Mr Morris will be disappointed on two counts. Firstly, that his was the only letter praising the Bonfire Night organisers – certainly, they deserve a great deal of credit for another fantastic evening of entertainment.

Secondly, as we have reported, the fund-raising target was not reached and was down on last year.

We may be in difficult financial times, but not so difficult that we can’t even manage to give 50p for every man, woman and child among the tens of thousands of spectators, never mind the £1 the Bonfire Society would like to see.
