The secret of Sussex is in its name!

Sussex means South Saxon (Su-Saxon). So we can say that Sussex is the home of the South Saxons i.e. us who were born here.

So we have Sussex Day (June 16th) each year to mark our historic county.

Many councils will fly the Martlets and there is the popular Sussex Charter.

We all know that this is a very difficult time, but Sussex Day is a simple celebration.

I have devised a toast to the last Saxon king – King Harold!

So I hope that as many people as possible will in some way mark our great historic county!
