LETTER: Wonderful production at Forest Boys School

I recently went to see Les Miserables at Forest Boys School in Horsham. It was a really wonderful production, an amazing achievement for the music and drama department and to those young people taking part.

One very powerful moment in the play is when the priest shows mercy to the convict Jean Valjean. After spending the night sheltering at the Bishop’s house he steals some silverware. He is arrested and Jean Valjean is returned to the Bishop’s house to answer for his crime.

However, Bishop Bienvenue shows great mercy as he tells the police that the man was given the silver as a gift, and that he should also take the two silver candlesticks that he obviously left behind in error.

This act of kindness was one that set in motion a transformation in this man’s life.

This is a story of grace, kindness and redemption. This is a wonderful picture of the transforming power of God’s love today. In coming to God he gives us what we don’t deserve and the chance of a new beginning.
