Tourist info idea - give us the hub

IT has long been a bone of contention that Bexhill has no formal, council-run tourist information centre.

Bexhill resident Sandra Melvin ran a voluntary tourist information point at the Colonnade before it was shut so the Grade II listed building could be redeveloped under the Next Wave Scheme.

Despite Sandra’s excellent work, the general view is that visitors to Bexhill have been bemused by the lack of a formal facility.

So the news that Rother is seeking to adopt a ‘hub’ and two satellite centres at three of the district’s prime locations is encouraging.

As yet, no decision has been made on whether Bexhill, Rye or Battle gets the prime tourist information site.

No doubt Rye and Battle will also have their eyes on the prize, but strictly speaking the hub should go to Bexhill.

Bexhill is the largest of the proposed trio of locations, and if Rother really wants to maximise any benefit the new seafront scheme will bring once it is completed the hub centre will help to achieve that.

Seeing as the town has been left for so long without a formal facility, granting it the hub might go some way to restoring a sense of goodwill with Bexhill residents and traders in general.
