Art Show: Brede Painting for Pleasure Group’s annual exhibition will be in Brede Village Hall over August Bank Holiday weekend, open 10-4.30. There is free parking, and refreshments will be on offer.

Over 60s: The Over 60s will be meeting on Tuesday afternoon in the Village Hall. Heather Goodsell will give a talk on Herbs and Hedgerows, which will be followed by a Welcome Back tea, and a chance to catch up on all the gossip. Everyone is very welcome to pop in and see if this is for you!

Coffee Stop: Each Wednesday, Coffee Stop opens between 10am and noon in the Church Centre, and ‘does what is says on the tin’ offering a chance to stop and have a chat over a cup of coffee with friends (even if you don’t know them yet!).

Women’s Institute: Also back after the summer break is our WI, who meet in the Jenkins room on the first Wednesday of each month at 2pm. In a change of speaker, Peter Hayman will be sharing his thoughts on A Country Year, which should be entertaining and informative.

Autumn Show: As we gather in our personal harvests from the allotment, garden or pots outside the back door, why not bring some along to the Village Hall and take part in the Horticultural Society’s Autumn Show on Saturday 5th? There is something for everyone, as you can enter with a single dahlia, a photograph or a jar of jam. It’s very easy to take part, and you will find lots of people ready to help you if you are a first time exhibitor. Actually, someone usually has to help me in some way, and I’ve been going for years!!

The crucial thing is to get to the Village Hall between 9 and 10.30am bearing your entries. Come back after 2.30pm and see the wonderful display of colour, and marvel at the ingenuity of some of our talented flower arrangers.

Pink Piglet Day: There will be plenty of time for you to support our Scout Group at their annual Pink Piglet day on Saturday afternoon at the Scout HQ, Goddens Gill. Family fun, BBQ, Sideshows, Stall, Tombola and a Prize Draw will be waiting for you between 1 and 4pm. Always great fun.

Craft Fayre: Northiam Bonfire Society’s next Craft Fayre will be held in the Village Hall on Saturday 12th September, 10am – 2pm. Anyone wishing to book a table should contact Simon (07976 254247) or download the booking form from the Society’s website.

Quizzes: September brings the quizzing season to a start, with the Village Hall Trust in Northiam on 19th, and the Conservative Association in Beckley on 26th. Both are £7 with a ploughman’s at half-time, so book the dates and get your thinking caps on!! Book with Helen (252152) for Northiam, and Zai (260677) for Beckley.

Bonfire Celebrations: For anyone who hasn’t visited a Sussex Bonfire, you may wonder why Northiam’s Bonfire Celebration is on Saturday 24th October. This is because we form part of a 2 month long county-wide celebration, which isn’t specifically linked to Guy Fawkes’ Night. Visiting Societies in varied fancy dress, carrying flaming torches and accompanied by drums will march through the village, ending up beyond the cricket field on the Hastings Road for a great Bonfire and Fireworks. Invite family and friends over for the evening and enjoy a touch of Sussex madness on your doorstep – and it only costs £1 to get in!!

The Society is looking for volunteers to help with marshalling. If you could support this village event in this way, please contact Pete Sargent (253798) – you get to wear the coveted purple hi-vis jacket, not to be sneezed at!!
