Harvest Weekend: Over the weekend we will be celebrating harvest in all its forms at St Mary's Church. Open 10.30-5pm on Friday and Saturday, and 12.30-2.30pm on Sunday, with soup and bread lunches available. The church will be decorated, there will be produce on sale, teas (of course!) and activities for children on Saturday, from 11am. On Sunday at 3pm, there will be a musical event in the Church '“ 1940s Music and Memories '“ which will cost £5 on the door, to include light refreshmentAn art exhibition and tombola will be located in the Church Centre.

Village Coffee Morning: In the Village Hall, there is the monthly coffee morning market on Friday morning 9.30-11.30am.

Dance Club: Friday night is dance night, and if you fancy an evening sequence dancing with a friendly group of people, do pop into the Village Hall and see what’s on offer. The Club runs 7-10pm with a break for tea.

Badminton: Our two badminton clubs welcome players of all abilities, and provide all you need to learn or get back into the game. On Friday, the adult club starts at 8.15pm, contact Karen Ayling (01797 253375). The Monday club is run by Sue Clark (016797 253428) for one hour from 5.45pm. Both operate as drop-in sessions, so do just turn up and say hello! A thriving junior club is run by Pete Thomson (07815 84517), with three graded sessions on a Friday evening, starting at 5pm.

Over 60s: The Over 60s meet on Tuesday, at 2pm in the Village Hall.

Coffee Stop: Call into the Church Centre on Wednesday mornings for coffee and a chat at Coffee Stop, between 10 and 12 noon.

WI: Derrick Hughes will give a talk to the Women’s Institute this Wednesday, entitled Heads and Tails, which sounds intriguing. The competition is a limerick, which can be an old favourite, or an original. The WI meets in the Jenkins Room on the first Wednesday of the month from 2-4pm. Visitors are always welcome.

Horticultural Society: Well, we’ve had the Autumn Show and we’ve had Harvest, so it’s time to settle down to some interesting lectures – Everett Leeds will speak to the Horticultural Society on Friday on the topic Clematis through the Seasons. The meeting starts at 2.30pm.

Bonfire Procession: Northiam’s Bonfire Procession and Fireworks will be held on Saturday 8th October this year. In the run up to the big day everyone is invited to make a guy and put it in their garden or window. There will be a competition for the best guy, so bring yours along to the Village Green (opposite Will’s) in time for the judging at 1pm. The guys will then be taken to take pride of place on our bonfire.

The Procession will start at 7.50 from the Bonfire field, heading down to the surgery car park when it will turn round – make sure you don’t wait outside the Muddy Duck this year or you will miss it!!

Boot Fair: Northiam Village Hall Trust’s monthly Boot Sales restart on October 9th. Please contact Marie Edwards for details or to book – 01797 253264.

Chitiwiri: The next collection of clothes, shoes, belts, bedding, handbags, perfume, toiletries and soft toys for Chitiwiri will be on 18th October. The items need to be put in green bags which can be collected from Forge House (the old post office) or tied in a black bin liner. The last day for delivering the bags is Monday 17th October. Flu Vaccination: The prolonged hot weather means that not many of us are thinking about the horrors of flu – but the vaccination season is upon us. Northiam Surgery will be holding sessions, starting on 13th October, for all eligible patients – over 65, chronic conditions, carer etc. If you are unable to get to any of these, or are not eligible for the free flu jab, most community pharmacies are also offering this service (both NHS and private), so there’s no excuse to miss out!
