Ninfield Village Voice - October 3

THE organisers of the Macmillan Coffee Morning in the Reading Room last Friday, thank all who helped and supported the event. Your generosity is much appreciated.

HOOE Harvest Supper: Congratulations to everyone involved in the successful Harvest Supper in Hooe village hall last Friday evening. All attending thoroughly enjoyed the supper and the company. The Vicar expressed his appreciation for the organisation and hard work involved in making it an event of which members of St. Oswald's could be proud. The same team is hoping to host a ploughman's lunch on Tuesday, October 14, 11.30am-1.30pm in Hooe village hall.

CHURCH Flowers: Margaret thanks all involved in decorating St. Oswald's Church in Hooe for the Harvest Festival Service held last Sunday. She who fetches the water is once again indebted to the talented ladies who created such beautiful arrangements for the Harvest Thanksgiving Service held last Sunday in St. March's Church, Ninfield. The Rev. Simon Earl thanked everyone involved in both Hooe and Ninfield.

NINFIELD Flower Group: Members meet on Monday to watch their invited guest, Geoff Clark, demonstrating Florists' Surprise. This will be in the Memorial Hall, Bexhill Road, from 7.30pm. The ladies will be running their Jumble Sale on Saturday, October 18, from 2pm, also in the Memorial Hall. If you have something you would like collected, please ring either 01424 892878 or 01424 892057 to arrange details.

HOOE Open Group: Next Friday (October 10) afternoon, the ladies will gather in Hooe village hall when guest speaker, Mrs. Pratt will talk about bees and the products she makes from the honey. The meeting starts at 2.30pm; visitors and new members are always most welcome. For more news about the Open Group, please ring Edna on 01424 842591 - she will be pleased to help.

GOODBYE: It is time to say goodbye and thank you to Pat Stratton, who is retiring from working at the surgery after 30 years and nine months. Dr. Thurston was the practice doctor when Pat began working there and, as many will remember, the surgery was held elsewhere in those days. We all wish Pat well with good health and happiness in the future.

ORGAN Recital in Catsfield: The organ recital was organised to raise funds for necessary repairs to the 125-year-old organ, which was originally donated by Lady Annie Brassey. St. Laurence Church was almost full and the recital was much enjoyed, raising in excess of 700. It is hoped this could become an annual event.

FARMERS' Market: Yes, Saturday, October 11, is the next Farmers' Market in the Memorial Hall, Bexhill Road, 10am to noon. If you have yet to visit the market, you will find excellent meat, various food items, pet food and other things to tempt you. There may also be plants of a high quality, too. Make a note of the date in your diary - a reminder will follow next week.

TRUTH is stranger than fiction: My friend, Jean, rang with this. One of her relatives owns an Art and Craft shop and recently a customer came in to ask if it would be possible to alter a photograph. "Yes, what would you like done?" "I'd like the picture reproduced but I want the man's hat removed". The assistant then asked what colour the man's hair was, "Oh, you'll see that when you take his hat off!!".
