Ninfield & Hooe Village Voice - May 23

News from Ninfield & Hooe

FARMERS MARKET: The weather did not deter anyone from visiting the Memorial Hall on Saturday. There were so many who had come to see what was on offer, who succumbed to temptation and went away delighted with their purchases.

On offer were super cuts of meat, homemade pies and cakes - and none were left when the market closed. Some cuts of meat were still available but not I think for long. There were very healthy looking plants, a stall offering dog biscuits and a local farm shop with a selection of its goods.

Mark is the organiser ably supported by Lesley, who ran the refreshments together with some charming youngsters. Both Mark and Lesley wish to thank all the villagers who supported the market.

I hope stallholders felt it was worth all their hard work, I'm sure their customers are already looking forward to 10am on Saturday, June 14 when the next Farmers Market will be held. I will of course remind you, so watch this space.

HOOE'S OLD Motor Club: A call from Eric Allen to tell us they have chosen how they will distribute the money they made last year. It is as follows; Ninfield Memorial Hall roof repair 375; Hooe Village Hall six tables and chairs 300; a seat for Hooe recreation ground 75; and a local childrens cancer fund which supports families 250.

The Old Motor Show is one of the few events held in Hooe during the summer and they have always been generous donors to charity. I am sure all the recipients will be most grateful. I will of course let you know all about the show nearer the date.

KNITTING FOR KISlIZI: The annual Spring Fair and Coffee Morning is at North Lodge in Battle on Friday, May 30, 10am-1pm. Please note parking presents no problem. There will be the usual stalls offering preserves, cakes, plants and bring and buy items. You will find a raffle and a tombola too.

All this is to raise funds for the maternity hospital in Africa. A tribute to Christine Vear has been planned, Christine worked hard for many years to ensure that necessities for the mothers and babies would be available. You will be pleased you paid a visit.

VILLAGE CELEBRATION: Please make a note that on Sunday, June 1, another splendid afternoon is planned. This will be held on the recreation ground to celebrate the opening of the multicourt, and families are invited to take a picnic to join members of the Youth Forum which is led by Sami Guard and Kaye Crittell. It is hoped there will be a representative from the organisation which helped fund the multicourt, two of the original Youth Forum and a surprise special guest.

The children will be offered an opportunity to send a message on a balloon, who knows how far it will go. This sounds like another wonderful village event to be enjoyed by every family who make their way to the recreation ground on June 1 from 2pm onwards.

NINFIELD BOWLS CLUB: On Tuesday, May 13, Ninfied played an away match against Alexandra Park. Ninfield won on two but lost overall. Believe it or not the match due to be played last Saturday was cancelled due to the weather which bore no relation to the previous Saturday! On Sunday it was an away match to Clive Vale, Ninfield were the victors, 107-95. Fingers crossed for sunny weather this weekend.

CHICHESTER CATHEDRAL: A reminder that the Chichester Cathedral Festival of Flowers is held from May 29-31. If this is of interest please do go between 10am and 7pm Thursday and Friday or until 6pm on Saturday. You may prefer to ring 01243 812480 to find out more.

I have also been sent news of a year of special events celebrating 900 years of Chichester Cathedral 1108 - 2008. You can find leaflets about these events on the table in the north aisle of St. Mary's church in Ninfield.

NINFIELD Carnival Association: This group who have done so much to organise social events in the village continues to run the Carnival.

They would appreciate offers of help, people to organise floats, the theme this year is Back To The Future, and cakes for the tea tent.

I know this is early but committee members will be pleased to know help is being offered, the Carnival involves a great deal of hard work. Please ring Lorna on 01424 893644.

BEING PREPARED: A small person was preparing to visit his sick grandmother. Sitting on the bottom stair struggling to put on his shoes he asked his mother "Shall I take my boots too?" "Why" asked his mother, "In case we have to bury her" came the reply. Silence followed!
