The Power of Love!: Aaah, Valentines Day is gone... but LEAP YEAR DAY is on MONDAY!! Ladies! It's your time, now admit it... you've waited four years to have this chance .. so.. Find a suitable chap, polish your knee, get a nice soft cushion and propose!! No, I don't think I'll be joining in; if I did, my other half would probably be seen heading for the hills! So, is anyone preparing to take the plunge? Please let me know if you did, and what the reaction was...and until then, Good Luck Girls! Now, because Easter is early this year, all the Celebratory Weekends seem to come tumbling one after another. Next Sunday, March 6th, is Mothers Day, and I am looking forward to spending it with my fabulous Mama, no doubt sharing a glass of fizzy plonk and with me cooking lunch. Just a quick funny story...apropos the close proximity of events and the giving of the relevant gifts... When I was young, Mum, Dad and I had a fabulous tabby Cat called Tiger, who had adopted us, and who was thrilled to be involved with all things '˜Family'. This included a fascination with wrapping paper when it came to Christmas, Birthdays etc...and brought him to near delirium one Spring, when Mothers Day, Dad's Birthday, Easter and Mum's Birthday all came within a 3 week period. SO many pressies and stuff with paper to play with...!! Poor Tiger obviously realised that he had not '˜joined in' in the appropriate way; he hadn't given any presents, just ripped up the wrapping of everyone else's, so he made a valiant attempt to make amends. The morning after Mum's Birthday.. the last in the line of celebrations... she got up to find Tiger sitting proudly in the dining room with his paw resting on a slight lump in the mat before him. Investigation underneath found a sizeable dead Rat, beautifully laid out and obviously presented with love and all best wishes!! One happy Cat, one slightly discombobulated Mama! I think though, in her typical, generous way, her only comment was...'Oh, well, it's the thought that counts...!' So, to this week's

Ninfield Working Mens Club: Another reminder that there will be a presentation this Saturday, 27th February, at 8.30pm, when the Chairman and Committee will present a cheque for £1500 to Chestnut Tree House, the proceeds from a year of fundraising events. If you haven’t been to ‘The Tin Hut’, as its affectionately called, then please do try and go along... you’ll always receive a warm welcome, there is a spectacular log fire on the go, have a coffee and a natter; and the bar prices are incomparable, as are the fabulous people! Ninfield Scouts Quiz Night: If you haven’t got any plans for this Saturday evening (27th) then why not head down to the Memorial Hall and join in the fundraising Fun Quiz Night hosted by Ninfield’s Scout group, they ask you to take your own drinks, but there will be nibbles on hand! £3 per head, Kids are £1...Veronica Sargent tells me that they won’t be really hard questions...Phew! that’s ok then!

Ninfield Parish Council: The first Thursday of each month sees the Parish Council gathering at the Methodist Church Hall in Church Lane...so it’s this coming Thursday, 3rd March at 7.15pm. The meeting at the beginning of February was just as I said would be...Quite Fun!!... a lot was discussed, the humour was good, and a feeling of positivity prevailed! So, why not go along to the next meeting and find out more about what is happening in the Village. There will be reports from the Primary School, and Headstart; updates from SLR., ESCC and Highways, progress reports on Sparke Pavilion, and no doubt, more on the proposed Issues and Options Document and its affect on future development in Ninfield. There are always a few residents who come along, so why not join them and see if you can help in any way. Remember, if you receive information first hand, you can never feel left out of decision making, and can always rebut rumour and negativity! Ninfield Action Group: Another very packed meeting on February 8th when the application for housing in Potmans Lane was discussed. It was decided that a flyer drop round the whole Parish would be conducted, so all residents would be up to date with the current state of play, and aware of the next meetings, so look out for a bright yellow leaflet through your door! The next meeting of NAG is on Monday 7th March, Reading Room, 7.30pm and there will also be an Open Village meeting on Wednesday 16th March at the Memorial Hall, 7.30pm, so please make a date in your diaries to go along and find out more of what is happening in the Village.

Ninfield Flower Group: Don’t forget the next gathering on Monday March 7th, 7.30pm at the Memorial Hall, when there will be a floral demonstration by Christine Nash, with her displays entitled ‘Easter Awakening’. Non-members are always greeted warmly and encouraged to go to these fantastic evenings, the entry is £4 and includes all refreshments. The beautiful flowers used for the displays are always raffled off at the end of the evening, so no waste, just more appreciation, and all funds raised go towards their charities and the ongoing costs for the infamous shows and displays that the Flower Group now present throughout the Country, as well as in their home Village. Ninfield Methodist Church and St Marys Parish Church: Invite everyone to celebrate the ‘Life of Cuba’ at a special united World of Prayer event at the Methodist Church on Friday 4th March at 2pm. The theme will be ‘Receive Children, Receive Me’ and the afternoon will be led by Deacon Jean Duckworth-Lloyd with the speaker being Reverend Tricia Williams. Do go along to learn about life in Cuba and celebrate it’s diversity; and prayers will also be held. There will be refreshments afterwards and the opportunity to look at displays about Cuban life, prepared by the Messy Church young people. Then on Mothers Day- Sunday 6th March, at 10.30am, there will be a Messy Church/Mothers Day and Others’ service with lots of crafts and activities, a celebration and Breakfast brunch. Everyone will be warmly welcomed on this special day, and the young people will make presents to give out.

Sunday 28th Parish Church Services: St Mary’s Ninfield - Family Eucharist at 9.30am. St Oswald’s Hooe - Family Eucharist at 11.15am.

Defibrillators: 24 Hour emergency aid- these invaluable machines are situated in Ninfield and Hooe, on the front walls of the Public Houses,- The Kings Arms Ninfield, and The Red Lion Hooe.

AND FINALLY!!: I was up on the recreation ground over the weekend, with some of the Parish Council, Village Society, Carnival and Bonfire Societies; and we were all looking round the green space, deciding on future ventures...like the re-siting of the Telephone Box, a walk-on Sundial, the permanent placement of Ninfield’s Beacon etc and also picking up litter, scooping up dog-poo....!... and while passing the meeting point/hut for the youngsters, by the half-pipe, we checked around and found some extraordinary graffiti on the sides of the hut and pipe. Now, two things became instantly fascinating...one, that the subject of the writings- a young lady- obviously was full of the joys of spring and much in love with her fellow man...sorry, Men, there were many names on the lists!!... and two, as well as the large and wonderful heart shaped art work in black magic marker, the handwriting was precise, the lines accurate, the spelling faultless and the grammar impeccable... Now, what to do? This misdemeanour has to be rectified while acknowledging the positives of such excellent schooling...! So, could the writer of the graffiti, or the young lady, or one of the beaux please make time to visit the location again, but this time with suitable cleaning fluids and a wet cloth and wipe away the evidence... please...?!! Many thanks...
