New home for clothes bank

NORTHIAM Village Hall Trust have come to the rescue of the Salvation Army after the charity was told by Rother District Council that it must move its clothing and shoe recycling bank from the Surgery car park in the village.

The enforced move came about after Rother changed the contract terms for refuse and recycling collection bins.

Northiam Village Hall Trust saved the day by agreeing that the hall car park could be used as a replacement location .

An additional book recycling bank will also be provided and it is hoped that both of these will be in situation by the end of the month.

The Salvation Army says that every tonne of textiles that is re-used rather than put into landfill, harmful carbon dioxide emissions are reduced by 3.6 tonnes.

A spokesman said: “It is a good cause. Our clothes banks go to support those who need them most.”
