Morrisons and Aldi in Horsham? Calls for more supermarkets to follow Lidl

The German retailer is set to build a new food store at the former Dreams site in Foundry Lane after Horsham District Council’s Planning Committee North approved its application at a meeting last night. For more on the plans read our previous story: All you need to know about Horsham Lidl plans

The town centre is already home to two supermarket chains including Sainsbury’s in Worthing Road and a multi-million-pound Waitrose store in Albion Way as well as a Marks and Spencers food hall.

Tesco also boasts a supermarket in Broadbridge Heath and the town also hosts multiple popular convenience stores including Co-ops, Budgens and Londis’.

However, at last night’s meeting councillor Peter Burgess said Horsham ‘needs more supermarkets’ and called on others such as Morrisons to open new stores in the town. Councillors have heaped praise on the creation of a ‘terrific’ new Lidl store

On social media multiple calls have also been made by shoppers for new supermarkets to open.

Jan Lucey said: “When’s Aldi coming?”

Mark Avies said: “Iceland next please! Good news.”

Debbie Hack added: “Now all we need in Swan walk is a Primark and we won’t have to shop elsewhere anymore.”
