Man struck by train at level crossing in Fishbourne

A MAN was airlifted to hospital after being hit by a train at Fishbourne.

The man, in his 20s, was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton after being struck by the train at a level crossing in Salthill Road, Fishbourne, at 7.25pm on Sunday, July 29.

A British Transport Police spokesman said: “BTP officers were called to Fishbourne level crossing, Salthill Road, following a report of a man being struck by a train.

“BTP and Sussex Police officers attended the incident, which was reported at 7.25pm.

Paramedics from South East Coast Ambulance Service also attended and the man, believed to be in his 20s, was airlifted to hospital.”

He was taken to Brighton by the Sussex Police helicopter, which had a paramedic on board.

The BTP said the man was conscious and breathing, but the full extent of his injuries is unknown.

Network Rail said the line was closed while staff liaised with the emergency services; travellers were offered a replacement bus service.

The incident is not being treated as suspicious.
