Detective Constable Ian Dearling, of Sussex Police, said: “We are appealing for witnesses and in particular for a woman and a man from a silver car that was at Pump 4 of the garage at the time of the incident.

“The woman approached staff and helped in administering first aid to the victim.

“The man was inside the silver car and may also have witnessed the incident.

“Although the exact motive for the assault is not yet clear, we can reassure residents that this is an isolated incident.
