Lords visit shops and cafeson visit to Rye and Camber

Rye Labour parliamentary candidate Sarah showed Baroness Jan Royall (Leader of the Opposition in the Lords), Lord Steve Bassam (Opposition Chief Whip), Baron Ray Collins (Shadow DFID Minister), and Baroness Estelle Morris (Former Education Secretary) around Camber and Rye, visiting leisure companies and a café.

They spoke with local business owners, parish councillors and hundreds of residents during their visit.

Sarah Owen said: “I have lots of happy memories of sun, sea and sand at Camber, but after hearing too many people say that Camber and other parts of Rother are often forgotten about by Rother District and East Sussex County Councils, I invited four senior members of the House of Lords to join our volunteers to hear what local people want for the area and to work on getting solutions to some long standing problems.

“During our roving surgery with the Lords, a number of important issues were raised by residents and businesses.

“I will be working with them to get a fairer deal for residents and combating the problems of parking, traffic, parish council funding, policing and the Environment Agency’s land management.”

Baroness Royal, Leader of the Opposition in the House of Lords, said: “Locally run businesses are such an important part of community life and during my visit to Camber I was fortunate enough to see some excellent examples of thriving local enterprises.”
