Lack Of Help After Op

A LITTLEHAMPTON man claims he is not getting the care or support he needs from social services.

Michael Huntley, of Manning Road, Littlehampton, has recently been discharged from hospital after suffering potentially fatal kidney failure.

He is wheelchair-bound, severely arthritic and not long ago underwent a hip replacement operation.

Mr Huntley said he had no friends or family to help with his care and felt the hour a day he received from social services was not enough.

But a spokesman for West Sussex social services told the Littlehampton Gazette that Mr Huntley's care was "constantly under review".

Simon Eden said: "We discovered Mr Huntley had been making excellent progress since leaving hospital."

It was felt 40 minutes' care in the morning and 15 minutes in the evening were enough for Mr Huntley's needs.

But a distressed Mr Huntley felt differently. He said he had no one to do his shopping or housework and had no quality of life at all.

"I cannot afford to get other people in to help me. I live on income support and disability allowance. I haven't got the money."

"I have no friends and all my family live in Canada.

"There is no one to do my shopping or to help me with housework.

"I just don't know what I've got to do to get some help."

Mr Eden said: "Should Mr Huntley's needs become more, we will take measures to supply the care."
