"The General Election could be called at any time and we are ready to fight it whenever it comes.

"I am fortunate because of the strong record Labour has locally of providing the best for people, when it has been in charge of the local councils.

"There's a lot of work still to be done to deliver even better things for people in our towns.

"I am the right man for the job because I have the local knowledge that only living somewhere all your life can give.

"The work begins for me now, and I look forward to meeting many local people as part of that."
