It's carnival time in Bognor this weekend

Schools, community groups and pom pom troupes are among those who have entered the revived Bognor Regis carnival.

The relaunched event has attracted 30 entries for this Saturday's (June 13) parade along the seafront.

The route will take them from the Regis Centre car park at 2.30pm along the Esplanade and Aldwick Road to the traffic lights, into Park Road and then Marine Drive West to West Park.

The response to the first carnival for four years has delighted organisers at Bognor Regis Town Council.

Led by the Bournemouth Carnival Band, it is estimated more than 600 adults and children will be taking part. Some will be joining in the carnival fun for the first time. Others have experience from previous years.

Among those looking forward to the carnival are members of the Bognor Community Action Network.

They will have a large float taking part which they have spent two-and-a-half months preparing.

It will have 38 costumed individuals as part of the display and walking alongside it.

Kez Bridger, who helps co-ordinate Bognor CAN's events, said: "It's been exciting preparing the float.

"It's going to be very colourful, very bright and have a happy theme.

"It's great the carnival has come back. I used to go and watch it when I was a child.

"It gets everyone together. All ages can enjoy it and all walks of life can join in."

There will be a few other traditional floats on the backs of lorries. Most of the entries are on foot.

Trophies will be awarded to the winners of each of the seven categories.

A prize of 100 each, sponsored by Butlins, will also go to the best walking and the best wheeled entries. The awards will be made in West Park about 5pm.
