IT'S CARNIVAL TIME

HASTINGS residents gathered for fun and frolics as carnival week set off at a blistering pace this weekend.

With Mayor Pam Brown on hand to set the ball rolling at the Opening Ceremony on Saturday afternoon, visitors and locals alike threw themselves into the carnival action.

The traditional tug-o-war again proved entertaining viewing, whilst the two-day beach concert on The Stade proved an ideal accompaniment for an afternoon's sunbathing.

The hills were alive with the sound of yelling as the Old Town Criers competition got underway on Sunday, and those seeking peace and quiet enjoyed a range of craft fairs, open gardens and art exhibitions on show throughout the occasion.

Even the hardiest fitness fanatics were due to receive a stern test during the Seaboot Race on Monday and the Old Town Bike Race on Tuesday.
