A SERVICE OF HOLY COMMUNION: There will be a service of Holy Communion this Sunday in Iden Parish Church, at 9.30 am

THE HARVEST SUPPER: Tomorrow is the Harvest Supper, in Iden village hall, at 7.30 pm. There may be tickets left, so if you wish to go, they are on sale in Iden Stores. The menu sounds nice and homely, just right for the harvest, soup, a ploughmans, and apple crumble.

IDEN BOWLS CLUB FREAK OUT!: There were pumpkins and cowboys, Compo, blue wigs and Scottish kilts at Iden Bowls Club on Saturday 27th August, for a last game of bowls, and a good feast. Bowlers wore fancy dress, and got into party spirit, enjoying the last of our Indian summer.

ONE FOR THE DIARY: On 22nd October, there will be a Quiz Night, in Iden village hall, at 7.30pm. Tickets, including food are £10. Details to follow.

THE POP-IN: The next Pop-In is on Monday 3rd October at 11am, in Iden village hall. Do come along for coffee and a good village get together!

EVERYONE IS WELCOME AT BINGO: The next Bingo session will be on Thursday 6th October, in Iden village hall. Doors open at 2pm, eyes down at 2.30pm. There is a jackpot, a flier, a raffle, and a light tea served at half time. Anyone from the Rye area is most welcome for a fun afternoon.

HELP WANTED URGENTLY: Iden Village Fete urgently needs a secretary and treasurer. If you would like to fill the bill in either of those capacities, or will help in any way with Iden Fete, PLEASE RING Ged Say, [telephone 01797 280495], or be at the Fete A.G.M. on Thursday 6th October , at 8pm, in Iden village hall.

KNIT AND NATTER: The next Knit And Natter will be on Tuesday 11th October, in Iden village hall, from 2pm-4pm. All are welcome, and may bring a craft of their choice.

A NIGHT OFF FROM COOKING: ‘The Bell’ are doing takeaway meals, and not only fish and chips, but any meal on their menu can be collected if you just ring through your order. Sounds good to me.

AN OLFACTORY DECISION: I’m definitely past my sell by date, but I still have to have a spray of perfume before I go out. I use the same perfume I chose when I was a student nurse, many moons ago. Apparently you’re supposed to move on to some other scent as you age but I still wear Worth Je Reviens. It’s not particularly expensive, but it’s my choice, and isn’t that just the point? Choosing a perfume is an identity thing. Do you sometimes associate family members with their scent? My aunt used to wear Coty Muguet, and hugging her hello was like putting your nose into a vase of Lily Of The Valley .Mind you, I do have a collection of what I call every day ‘housework perfume’, which are all cheap and cheerful [they go well with the cobwebs] Anyway, my granddaughter said the other day, “Grannie, I would love some Mark Jacobs ‘Decadence’ for Christmas”. I had to smile. .It’s an expensive choice, and she’s only just started secondary school. [whatever happened to Barbie dolls?’,] but I will buy it for her , because young as she is, she’s made an informed feminine decision. One of many I hope, and I’d love to be the one to buy her something so grown up. It may even become her signature scent.
