Hundreds left without water supply

Hundreds of homes were left without water after a water main burst yesterday evening (Monday).

South East Water said it worked through the night to restore the supply in south Crowborough.

Water has been restored to the vast majority of properties affected in the Jarvis Brook, Alderbrook, Stone Cross and Whitehill areas after the company transferred water round other parts of the water main network.

A spokesman said: 'This may cause temporary issues for some householders affected by low pressure or "white water", which is caused by air getting into the system. This does not affect the quality of the water and customers are advised to run their taps until the water runs clear.'

The incident occurred when a large 15 inch diameter main burst at 5.20pm as South East Water engineers carried out work on connecting new water mains in the area.

Work will also continue on repairing the burst main with the aim of returning water supplies back to normal operations as soon as practicably possible.

South East Water apologised to its customers for any inconvenience caused.
