Hundreds keep fit by turning out for six-a-side football league

A six-a-side football league in Bognor Regis is attracting around 150 players a week.

It is held every Tuesday at the Arena Leisure Centre on the Bognor Regis Community College campus in Westloats Lane.

Organiser John Harris said: "I speak to most of the people participating every week and the overwhelming feedback has been that they enjoy playing as it gives them a weekly workout while having fun.

"Quite a number of individuals said they disliked going to the gym and running on a treadmill, but they were happy to take part in a team sport as it is much easier to get motivated when others around you are doing the same."

The league gives local teams the chance to participate in a weekly event which is professionally organised.

But the emphasis is much more on fun and enjoyment than winning at all costs.

Mr Harris added: "On a personal level, I understand what the players are saying, having played both professional and semi-professional football for over ten years now.

"Training or working out alone is difficult and it is hard to motivate yourself, but when you are involved in a team, even a small team of five or six members, it's much easier to get yourself up for the session."
