Hundreds affected as Rother sends wrong bank details

Rother District Council has apologised after sending customers’ bank details to the wrong people.

The local authority said a “computer error” led to 525 people receiving an erroneous email containing the partial bank details belonging to another customer.

A Rother District Council spokesman said: “Due to a computer error, a number of our garden waste customers received a direct debit confirmation email containing the partial bank details of another customer.

“The error related only to the confirmation email, and all of the direct debits were processed using the correct bank details.

“We’d like to sincerely apologise for this unfortunate situation and reassure our customers that no fraudulent activity could be made wi `th the details which were shared in error.”

Rother has contacted all 525 people affected to inform them about the error, to apologise and to send them the correct confirmation.
