Home needed for rare engines

A victim of the terrible firework factory explosion at Shortgate, near Ringmer, is appealing for help in storing his rare collection of 1920s stationary engines.

Richard Winter stored his collection of 15 vintage engines, once used to power farm machinery, on the Marlies Farm site of his brother Martin's firework factory.

When the factory went up in the explosion of December 3, killing two firemen and injuring nine other people, the shed housing Richard's beloved engines was destroyed.

The engines themselves were damaged but repairable.

But to get them ready for the East Sussex vintage steam fair rallies that start in May, Richard needs a new warehouse where he can work on them.

'I desperately need somewhere in the Lewes area to store them. I'm willing to pay a reasonable rent ,' said the jobbing builder of Middle Way, Lewes.

He can be contacted on 01273 475583.
