Help sought to identify flasher

POLICE have issued an e-fit of a man wanted for a number of indecent exposure incidents in Bexhill over the last couple of months.

The offender has been spotted “flashing” on at least four occasions, the first known to the police being on October 19 when he exposed himself to two girls on their way to school in Gunters Lane.

On this occasion the man was described as aged about 40, approximately 6ft tall, of medium to large build with a beer belly, tanned complexion and wearing black jogging trousers or shorts, and a grey t-shirt.

In other incidents, the suspect, believed to be the same man, has exposed himself to women and girls in the same area of Bexhill. However, he has made no attempt to approach or contact them.

Staff at Bexhill High and Charters Ancaster Schools have asked pupils to be aware, but have otherwise opted for a low-key response to avoid causing unnecessary anxiety.

Roger Powell, bursar at Charters Ancaster, said police had told him: “It was decided that we would not cascade the information out as it was felt that it could possibly create panic. Our advice would be that everyone, including young people, should be as vigilant as ever.”

Mike Conn, principal of Bexhill High School, said: “I am afraid we live in a world where we have to warn students about the danger of adults. We have to keep pupils informed of all the dangers.”

Mr Conn added: “Anything that threatens the kids is always a worry for me. I know the way the children received the message and they behaved very responsibly. They’ve taken the message on board.”

Anyone who recognises the e-fit, has any information about the man or who has been a victim of his activities and has not thus far reported it to police, is asked to contact 0845 60 70 999, quoting serial 205 of 19/10.
