Have your say on traffic plans

RADICAL changes have been suggested to solve traffic problems in Westham.

East Sussex County Council has put forward a number of proposals to fight problems in the village.

Helen Pace, a county council spokeswoman, said: 'We want to know what residents think of the proposals.

'There have been a number of accidents in the village and the parish council requested a consultation process.'

The council plans to introduce minor roundabouts and activated signs to try and keep vehicles at 30mph.

Rattle Street's speed limit would also be reduced from 40mph to 30mph to fit in with new government guidelines.

Other suggestions include:

'¢ Two roundabouts at the junction with Gallows Lane and at the main village crossroads.

'¢ The existing pelican crossing being changed to a puffin crossing, and moved further east near Pevensey and Westham C of E Primary School.

'¢ An uncontrolled crossing near St Mary's Church.

'¢ Eastbound traffic would have priority over traffic entering the village.

'¢ Wider footpaths, dropped kerbs and possible extra street lighting.

'¢ A new traffic island near the village name-board, at the east of Westham.
