It is something I think that we all take for granted but there is always more to it than meets the eye. What am I talking about? The organisation of the sale of Poppies and associated items. I have heard that our local Area Poppy Appeal organiser for the Royal British Legion, Harvey Meares, is standing down after 11 years and is looking for someone to take over the role. He looks after Pease Pottage, Slaugham, Warninglid, Staplefield as well as Handcross, so you don’t necessarily have to live in the village, you could live in any of the villages mentioned. It is not a role that requires you to have served in the Forces so please don’t be put off if you have no association but really want to help this noble cause. If you would like more information about just what is involved – the main requirement is spare time in October and November each year – please get in touch with Harvey on 01444 400705. The Appeal last year has so far raised £3,569.78 so it is certainly something worth doing if we can raise so much in a short space of time!
