Greg Barker opens fair

SIDLEY'S ALL SAINTS Church Christmas Fair, was opened by local MP Greg Barker last Saturday and, it had a decidedly Dickinson theme with many volunteers from the fundraising commitee and congregation dressed in Victorian finery.

With all monies raised from the event going to the Church funds, in his opening speech Greg said: "Everybody involved with this event today has worked extremely hard for this very, very good cause. May I say 'thank you' to everybody who has worked so hard to get everything ready to make it such a success. I hope that we are going to raise lots of money and thank you all for supporting the Church today. I'd like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and, it gives me the very greatest of pleasure to declare the Christmas Fayre open."

Many stalls offered Christmas items to keep bargain hunters happy, including books, toys, bric a brac, a tombola and grand raffle. There was the added advantage of purchasing a variety of scrumptious cakes, all made by commitee member Suzanne Parrot, and they included traditional Christmas cakes, mince pies and for the more adventurous there was the chance to purchase delicious looking whiskey dundee cakes.

Greg took advantage of some of the home-made produce and purchased a jar of pickled onions, he admitted they were a favourite of his and said that was one of the great things about going to local events such as this because he said, "You really can't beat home-made produce."

Santa made a special visit in order for local children to give him their Christmas lists well in time for Christmas. Teas coffees, warm mince pies scones, and cakes kept the happy shoppers refreshed.

All Saints vicar the Reverend Canon Trevor Buxton was delighted by the support from local people and said of the fair: "The idea was for us all to have some community time together and the way everyone has contributed to the day from making cakes, produce, donations and giving of their time has been greatly appreciated."
