First six months of Bexhill Alliance

THE Bexhill Alliance, born out of frustration at lack of council consultation over town issues, recently met at Manor Barn, Bexhill, to review its first six months of activity.

Since its launch in November 2009, membership has risen from 67 to 114 and, led by chairman John Lee, the group has set out aims, created a committee and task groups, established a website and published a newsletter.

The Alliance has already supported various community concerns including Save Our Seafront (SOS), Bexhill Against Landfill and Incineration (BALI) and Herbrand Walk developments.

It is now working with Sackville Road traders on a scheme to brighten up the street and make it more attractive to residents and visitors alike.

To help clarify council workings, the executive committee has arranged seminars with the authority's senior officers to cover such topics as planning, regeneration, finance and strategic planning.

The aim is to help the Alliance engage in constructive dialogue with the council over issues that concern it.

The seminars are open to all members.

An active social programme has raised more than 500 and has enabled members to get better acquainted, as have weekly coffee mornings at Di Paolo's caf, held at 10.30am each Wednesday.

The Alliance's next meeting is at 7.30pm on Monday, August 16 at Manor Barn.
