Felpham churchgoers celebrate 70th birthday with a 1930s evening

The building in Felpham Way had been equally commemorated when it was new.

At a stone-laying ceremony held on June 7, 1939, a trowel was presented to Antony Neville Smart, whose father was the Sunday school superintendent at Waterloo Square.

The trowel was part of a display on view during the birthday weekend, which was held on September 26 and 27.

On the Saturday, there were family activities, with children and parents playing games, making toys and eating food from the 1930s.

This was followed by a 30s evening with entertainment and food as it would have been in 1939, and a reflection on the vision of those who started a church just as the second world war began.

On the Sunday, a service was held at which the church looked forward to continuing its work in Felpham.

The church has services every Sunday at 10am and 10.45am and provides a variety of activities for all ages throughout the week.
