Part of a seafront road in Eastbourne was cordoned off by a bomb disposal team yesterday afternoon (August 3).

According to Sussex Police, officers were called shortly before 6.30pm after a member of the public found what they thought was a mortar from the Second World War on the beach in Eastbourne.

It was moved by a member of the public from the beach to Pacific Drive, before the police arrived.

Officers put a cordon in place while Explosive Ordnance Disposal teams were called, police added.

The device was found to be a training mortar and was safely removed.
