Derelict Rye Gristmill development plans rejected

Plans to build a three-storey building with business space and five homes on a derelict mill in Rye was rejected yesterday (Thursday, October 13).

Rother District Council said ‘no’ to knocking down the old Gristmill Pine on the A259 New Winchelsea Road and replacing it with a mixed use development.

Councillors believed it was too out of character, too high and wide, and there was not enough parking with Highways England having concerns.

There have been complaints from residents about the derelict mill and calls for something to be done with it, but councillors thought this was inappropriate.
