Dangerous parking in Southwick addressed

CONCERNS over dangerous parking in Southwick could mean a series of waiting restrictions being imposed.

Adur County Local Committee is proposing a number of parking restrictions in the town centre to improve safety for pedestrians.

People have until February 6 to comment on the Traffic Regulation Orders proposed.

The statement of reasons reads: “Concerns have been raised that vehicles parking too close to junctions in Southwick restrict visibility and obstruct the passage of traffic.

“Concerns have also been raised by some residents that inappropriate parking takes place on Spring Gardens. Shoppers and residents are concerned about the inefficient use of road lay-bys in the area.”

The committee has developed the scheme to address the issues. It is designed to ‘avoid danger to persons or traffic using the affected roads’ and to improve the area.

Proposals include double yellow lines in parts of The Green, no waiting at the junction of Roman Crescent with Southwick Street and to introduce a one-hour bay limit on the south eastern side of Southwick Street, opposite Barclays Bank. Other roads affected include Spring Gardens, Whiterock Place and Hadrian Avenue.
