'˜Welfare issues' lead to seizure of three horses from farm near Pulborough

The RSPCA seized three horses from a farm near Pulborough last month due to '˜welfare issues' concerning the animals, the charity said.

Any horses remaining at Lickfold Farm in Wiggonholt are not subject to the RSPCA’s ongoing investigation, the organisation added.

RSPCA officers, along with units from Sussex Police and a vet, twice raided the farm off the A283 - on Monday February 1 and Monday February 15.

A spokesperson for the charity said: “RSPCA officers have been working to resolve complex issues regarding some of the horses at the location, a number of which are now in RSPCA care.

“This investigation is ongoing and anyone with any information regarding these horses is urged to call the RSPCA inspectors’ appeal line in confidence on 0300 123 8018.

“Any horses now at the location are not subject to an investigation as the RSPCA has no welfare concerns for these animals.”

Two horses were removed from the premises and placed under RSPCA care following the first raid at the farm.

Following the second raid, where a third animal was seized, a spokesperson for Sussex Police said the horse was removed under Section 18 of the Animal Welfare Act.

The ruling relates to animals in distress.
