Police appeal after road rage on A23 near Hickstead

Police are appealing for information after a road rage argument between a car driver and a motorcyclist on the A23 near Hickstead.

A Ford Mondeo and a motorcycle were being driven south when the Mondeo moved into the inside lane of the dual carriageway.

The motorcycle pulled alongside the car and kicked the driver’s door while they were travelling at speed.

The motorist then turned off the A23 at Hickstead because she felt threatened but as she approached the roundabout at the top of the slip road the motorcyclist overtook her, turned his bike around and drove towards the oncoming traffic until he was alongside her car.

He then reached inside the car window and tried to grab the car key from the ignition but when the driver tried to stop him he left.

The incident happened at about 9.30am on 8 February.

Response investigator Katy Martin said: “This was a very frightening experience for the driver who was left very shaken by what happened.

“I am trying to find anyone who saw the Mondeo or the motorcycle on the A23 that day or the confrontation between them on the slip road near the Shell garage at Hickstead.

“Although this happened several weeks ago it was so startling that anyone who saw it will remember what happened.

“Please contact me if you saw or know anything at all.”
