Magistrates’ court round-up

June 17:

Angela Smith (aged 57), from Crowhurst Lane, Bexhill, pleaded guilty to theft from a shop. She was fined £100.

Sarah Diggens (aged 38), from Braybrooke Road, Hastings, pleaded guilty to stealing grocery items worth £29.97 from Asda, St Leonards, on April 28. She also admitted being in breach of a suspended sentence imposed by Central Kent Magistrates for making false representation. She was sentenced to prison for eight weeks, suspended for 18 months. Magistrates also imposed a community order with a drugs rehabilitation requirement.

Luke Ellis (aged 27), from Kent Road, Hastings, pleaded guilty to possessing a quantity of cannabis. He was fined £200.

Christian Small (aged 23), of Hill Road, Fairlight, pleaded guilty to drink driving. The offence took place at Old London Road, Hastings, on June 2. He was fined £110 and disqualified from driving for 26 months.

Paulin Pjetri (aged 36) of Lea Avenue, Rye, pleaded guilty to being drunk and disorderly at Ferry Road, Rye, on May 17. He was fined £190.

June 18:

George Richardson (aged 30), of Rectory Park, Pett, pleaded guilty to being in possession of cannabis at Waterworks Road, Hastings, on April 18. He also pleaded guilty to driving offences at Frederick Road, Hastings, on April 8. They were: driving without due care and attention; failing to stop for a marked police vehicle; driving with no insurance and having insufficient tyre tread. He also pleaded guilty to being in possession of cocaine on the same day. Magistrates ordered him to pay a total of £656 in fines and costs and endorsed his licence with six penalty points.

June 19:

Jacob Burge (aged 25), of Southlands Avenue, Bexhill, pleaded guilty to driving while unfit through drugs. He was driving a Peugeot 206 on Pebsham Lane, Bexhill, on December 27, 2014 when the offence took place. He was banned from driving for 12 months.

Magistrates also imposed a community order with a requirement of 100 hours of unpaid work.

Justin Gerstmann (aged 33), of Crowborough Road, Hastings, was found guilty of assault by beating following a not guilty trial. The offence took place at Cambridge Road, Hastings, on November 11 last year. He was sentenced to a 12-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £465 in court costs.

John Churchod (aged 60) of Northiam Road, Staplecross, pleaded guilty to sending messages on Twitter which were anti-Semitic/homophobic and racial and of a grossly offensive, obscene, or menacing character. The offence took place on August 4, 2014. He was fined £1,000 and ordered to pay £650 costs.

Clive Hill (aged 68), of Frederick Road, Hastings, was found guilty, following a not guilty plea, of assault be beating and resisting arrest. The offences took place on December 16, 2014. He was fined £400 for the assault and £200 for resisting arrest. He was also ordered to pay £650 in court costs.
