Elizabeth Smith, 52, previously of Winchelsea Beach but now of Wilton Road, Bexhill, was sentenced at Hove Crown Court on Tuesday 2 November. Smith, who was working as an estate agent, defrauded an elderly client out of £160,000, is now starting a five-year prison sentence. Her victim, Joan Cannon from St Leonards, had been in court to see Smith admit the offence earlier this year, but sadly died soon afterwards. She was 82. Smith had been trading as Waves Estates in Cinque Ports Street, Rye, and pleaded guilty on 11 August to fraud by abuse of position between 2018 and 2019, by defrauding Joan of £160,000 which Joan had given her to help complete purchase of a property. Smith instead kept the money and spent it on herself, including on expensive holidays and a new car.

Adam Adams, 26, of Aldwick Road, Bognor, was given a 30-month prison sentence at Portsmouth Crown Court on Monday 22 November, having previously admitted five counts of possession of cocaine and cannabis with intent to supply, possession of an offensive weapon, a knuckleduster, and money laundering. He was stopped by police for driving with no insurance.

A long term police operation in which West Sussex officers disrupted a 'County Lines' drugs gang bringing drugs into the area from London, has resulted in sentences for eight people, all convicted of being concerned in the supply of Class A drugs. In May 2018 officers carrying out Operation Highwood executed a series of search warrants at addresses in Bognor Regis and London, seizing large quantities of crack cocaine, heroin, cash and mobile phones used to deal drugs, on what was known as the 'Ghost Line'. After a series of separate trials, sentencing was completed at Portsmouth Crown Court on Monday 22 November. Daniel Olugbosun (left in main picture), 30, was given a total sentence of five years and six months, his brother Michael Olugbosun (centre), 29, was given a Section 37 Hospital Order of detention under the Mental Health Act 1983 - both were from Blackfriars Rd, London SE1 - and Amir Abrahams-Hodge (right in main picture) 26, of Bradgate Rd, London SE6, was given a five years and four months sentenc

Tabarhosseini, 38, of Folkestone Road in Dover, was charged and stood trial at Lewes Crown Court for murdering a St Leonards father in his own home. Darren Alderton, 51, was found dead inside his flat in Magdalen Road on Thursday 8 April, 2021 after police received calls concerned for his welfare. On Thursday November 25 after an 11-day trial, he was found guilty of the murder of Darren Alderton by a unanimous jury. At the same court on Friday November 26, he was sentenced to a minimum tariff of 30 years.
