Ricara, which also doubled as a cafe, shut its doors on South Street earlier this month.

In a note posted on the door, Richard Mariner thanked his customers and said a restaurant would be taking Ricara’s place.

He said: “I wish to thank all the very kind regular customers who helped make Ricara business such a great experience and fun to operate.

“The cafe was run for four and a half years and during that time I met wonderful regular customers and made new friendships. I will miss you.

“The schoolwear shop at 42 South Street started in 1997 and has also a large list of regular customers to whom I am very grateful.

“I am sorry that the time has now arrived to close the shop, but I find that although I could have retired five years ago I have enjoyed keeping the business going.”

Mr Mariner said the Ricara shop which has sold workwear and schoolwear in Littlehampton for 40 years would be staying.

He added that the lease on the Chichester building in South Street had gone to a new business who would be ‘opening a new restaurant soon’.
