Chinese workshop at St Richard's

Youngsters at St Richard's had the chance to learn about the Chinese New Year from local teacher Alexandra Boyle.

Mrs Boyle offered to come in to the school to lead both a special assembly and workshop to mark the start of the Year of the Rabbit.

The whole of year 8 learned basic Chinese greetings and had insight into the tradition and history during an entertaining assembly.

Afterwards a group of thirty took part in a Chinese workshop and discovered aspects of the culture including calligraphy, food, geography, sport and traditional dress.

There was great enthusiasm among the pupils during the hands-on workshop. Pupils were keen to volunteer to try on some traditional Chinese clothes and compete against each other in a table tennis challenge.

Pupils and staff thank Mrs Boyle for sharing her knowledge, and a year 8 pupil who took part in the workshop said: “It was really interesting and fun. I especially enjoyed finding out about Chinese clothes and writing the language.”
