The Southgate pub is owned by brewer Greene King, but responsibility for the business lies with experienced operator John Whelan, the pub’s new tenant.

John said: “I have a huge passion for pubs and being right next to the train station I could see there was so much potential here to wow everyone stepping off the train with the first Chichester pub they see.

He added: “It is a completely fresh start for the pub, so we decided to re-name the pub to show this as clearly as possible.”

Together with Greene King, John has overseen an extensive refurbishment, and The Foundry will be offering a new and expanded menu as part of the changes.

The Foundry will continue to show Sky Sports and BT Sports in one area of the pub, with the other parts dedicated to dining and other more informal areas. At weekends it will also host live music events.

The Foundry is John’s seventh pub and as well as the make-over the large garden has also been revamped.
