Cheaper Sports for Residents

TAKING part in two of the nation's most popular sports will be cheaper next year for Rother residents thanks to a decision to freeze the cost of pitch hire.

Rother District Council decided at their cabinet meeting on Monday (October 13) to keep cricket and football pitch bookings at the same price - which represents a decrease in real terms.

Cabinet said the move showed the Council's commitment to help keep residents fit and healthy, as well as recognising the financial difficulties caused by the recession.

The move came about as cabinet reviewed fees and charges for 2010 / 11.

Allotment holders in the district will also benefit from a freeze in charges, whilst there will be no increase in the cost hiring beach cabins or the use of sailing or angling boats - also representing reductions in real terms.

Cabinet also chose to keep car parking charges the same at the Eversley Road car park in Bexhill.

Rother District Council leader Cllr Carl Maynard said: "The decision to keep many of these charges the same actually represents a net reduction in the cost of using these services next year.

"The Council recognises the financial constraints our residents are operating under during the recession and, in the case of our sports facilities, understands the importance of regular exercise, especially in trying to overcome problems such as childhood obesity."
