Cash boost for community groups

TWENTY community groups and charities have been given grants.

Lewes Town Council agreed more than 12,000 worth of grants to groups from Lewes and the surrounding areas, including Lewes Town Partnership, Lewes Live Literature and the Pells Child Care Group.

The 1,000 grant to Lewes Live Literature will help with the costs of a young people's festival, while the 1,500 grant for the Pells School group will be a significant contribution to an exchange trip to Blois, Lewes' twin town in Central France.

Stephen Dennis, headteacher of Pells Primary School, said: 'This is brilliant news and will enable all our Year 6 students to visit their pen-pals in Blois.

'They've been pen-friends for three years now, the kids from Blois have been over here but our kids haven't been there.

'The grant will make the trip more affordable to parents so it's very welcome.'
