Carnival celebrates success

BEXHILL'S Carnival tradition is not something the town should take for granted, Rother chairman Cllr Wendy Miers told a gathering on Saturday.

The chairman was speaking at Bexhill Amateur Athletic club where Bexhill Carnival Committee had invited supporters, sponsors and recipients of the proceeds of the collection taken during the July street procession to a celebration evening.

Incoming guests were welcomed by the town's Carnival Court.

Guests also included Deputy Town Mayor Cllr Keith Bridger and carnival day float judges.

Recalling a brilliant July day and a wonderful Carnival, she said she had been greatly impressed by the standard of the procession entries and the presence of so many Carnival Queens and Princesses.

Each successive Rother chairman is ex officio president of Bexhill Carnival.

Thanking Carnival's organisers and congratulating them on their success, she said: "The tradition of having a Carnival in Bexhill I think is something that we must not take for granted.

"I want to say thank you to the people who keep this tradition going - of giving something back to their community."
