Business accord wins the backing of Chichester District Council

A Federation of Small Businesses 'small business engagement accord' has won the backing of Chichester District Council.

Council leader Cllr Myles Cullen joined Alison Brown, chairman of the FSB's Chichester and Arun branch, to sign the accord '“ a voluntary code of practice between the FSB and the local authority.

"We already work very closely with our local businesses and wanted to show our future commitment by signing the 'small business accord'," said Cllr Cullen, who is also portfolio holder for the economy.

"We hold regular events and conferences enabling the business community to have their say and let us know their needs and concerns.

"This has led to numerous opportunities for both the council and local businesses. Over the past year the council has invested nearly 800,000 in helping to support local business."

Ms Brown said: "Small businesses generate wealth, employment and opportunity in local communities; as our national Keep Trade Local campaign says, they aren't just part of the local community '“ they are the local community.

"The value of good local authority consultation should not be underestimated. The purpose of the accord is to avoid problems, which, if not addressed, could leave the business community feeling isolated and alienated.

"By signing the accord, we are a step closer to breaking down communication barriers and developing a constructive relationship to engage our 4.7 million small businesses across the country in their local government."
