BRAVE SHAVE: Tomorrow night, Saturday, the lovely Davina Swaine is going to have her head shaved in aid of Macmillan Nurses. This is such a brave thing to do and we hope that many of you will come along and support her. It is going to take place at the Bear motel at 8pm. There will be a raffle to help bring in a bit more cash and you can sponsor her by going onto her Brave Shaver page or on the forms at the Stores or the Bear. I am sure that donations on the evening will also be very acceptable. SUMMER SHOW: Tomorrow, Saturday, Burwash Horticultural society will be holding their annual summer show. The exhibits can be staged from 9am to 11am at the Pavilion, Swan Meadow. There are lots of classes including vegetables, flowers, floral art, photography, cooking and children’s classes. The judging will take place after staging and visitors can go along from 3.20pm to 4pm. Good luck to all the exhibitors.

DEFIBRILLATOR: Also tomorrow, Saturday, Burwash Age Concern will be at the village hall to demonstrate how to use the defibrillator that is housed outside the main door. Knowing how to operate the machine could save someone’s life one day. The demonstrations will be on from 10am to noon. Please feel free to go along and find out how these work.

WALK: The August walk for strollers will take place on Wednesday. Ijon Jenner will lead you round the village footpaths at a gentle pace. Why not go along and join him and his merry band of followers as they learn where the paths are and see the beauty of the countryside around our villages. He will leave the Bear car park at 9am and return in time for lunch. Don’t forget to take plenty of liquids to drink if it is really warm.

BATEMAN’S: Bateman’s invite you to go along to The Just So Day on Wednesday from noon to 4pm. Listen to the story of how the elephant got its trunk and the camel got its hump. Rudyard Kipling wrote these stories when his daughter, Josephine was asking probing questions about the world and his inspiration for the tales. Normal entry admission applies.

WHIST: The August Whist drive will take place on Thursday evening at the village hall. These fun card evenings are just that fun, open to players of all abilities. The evening starts at 7pm and are usually over by 10pm. Parking is available in the Catholic Church car park opposite the hall. Entry is £3 per person and includes 20 hands of cards and light refreshments. These evenings are getting ever more popular and are so much fun, a great way to meet new people who also enjoy playing cards and maybe even win one of the prizes which go to the highest and second highest scoring man and lady and the lowest lady or man. RUDE MECHANICALS: Next Friday evening, August 5, the Rude Mechanical Theatre Company will once again be in the Burwash Swan Meadow playing fields. This year they are performing MacByrd, and it sounds hilarious. Tickets are various prices available from the Rude Mechanical website. If you have been before you know how clever this company is, if you haven’t then you are missing out on a superb evening. Picnics and wine maybe taken. Chairs and rugs a must for this open are performance.
