British Red Cross Coffee Morning

There were many stalls offering eager shoppers the opportunity to buy various items including jewellery, books, bric a brac, cards, and clothes.

In addition there was a well stocked tombola and raffle. Teas, coffees and biscuits were also served.

rganiser Eric Levy said the coffee mornings, which are held once a month on the third Saturday, always have a good turn out and are well supported by local people. He said: "The coffee mornings are like a little club, everyone comes along for a coffee and a chat."

Also attending the coffee morning was former President of the Red Cross Sussex, Eileen Nicol.

Eileen, who has been a member of the Red Cross for fifty years explained that the money raised (which on average is approximately 100) goes towards buying medical equipment for local residents to loan.

She said: "Thalia house provides a free loan service of aids such as wheelchairs and commodes to older people living in Bexhill. It's a service that is very much needed here."

Eileen praised the dedication of the many volunteers who organise events such as coffee mornings and help with 'fire victim support' a service which supplies teas and coffees in an emergency situation.

She said: "They are amazing people. Many of the older members have been first aiders for 30 or 40 years."
