Saturday 13 April saw many Mother’s Union members from all over Sussex descend on Chichester Cathedral and fill it to capacity for the ‘Seeds we Sow’ Diocesan Festival Service and Commissioning of Officers 2013 - 2016. Just after 2pm the nearly 50 strong MU members again from across the Dioceses began to sing. The service began with the Hymn Thy hand, O God has guided thy flock from age to age. The procession around the Cathedral and down the Central aisle was headed by around 70 MU Banners in amongst them was Joyce Shambrook proudly carrying the MU banner for Brede; It can only be likened to an Armada of sails, it was quite a spectacle. Following this was the Commissioning of Chris Emson as President of the Diocese and also her team. The message that both the Right Reverend Dr Martin Warner and the Bishop of Chichester gave was the importance of Mothers across the world and how much they would fight to keep their children safe, fed and watered. MU began with Mary Sumner as its founder she believed strongly in the importance of Family life and prayed to God to give her strength to meet and help as many people as she could. MU today has many projects that aim to strengthen her legacy and welcome both Male and Female members from all over the World. Chris Emson the President writes - Mothers Union is a grass root organisation made up of inspirational members who respond to the needs of families and the communities, through fellowship and hard work members support each other, nurture individuals, families and society as a whole. In this Diocese we volunteer in Lewes Prison in the crèche, we run the Contact Centre in Stones Cross Eastbourne. We offer holidays to those who need a break, and run parenting and marriage preparation sessions. Whether you are looking for support, fellowship or simply a place to meet likeminded individuals, Mothers Union is the place for you. Sadly, last Sunday’s Cricket match had to be postponed due to a waterlogged field. Very sad actually because the would be spectators did not have chance to try out the new benches and the sun did come out at last. The match this Sunday 21 April is against Netherfield, it is a home match to be held in the Recreation ground at 2pm. Hopefully the weather will be improved for us all and the field will have dried up. Sunday morning Mrs C Freeland will be the Preacher for Trinity Methodist Church in Broad Oak beginning at 10.30am; an hour before at 9.30 there will be a sung Eucharist in St George’s Church Brede. Monday 22 April In Brede Village Hall Age Uk Daycentre Brede meet at 10.30am and their entertainer after lunch is Dave the Music man. They should enjoy that. The Clients have such fun at the Centre, the staff consists of a few Volunteers (and they need more) and two care assistants that assist Maureen who manages it all, she would be very pleased to hear from anyone who feels they might like to join and hopes someone maybe able to come as a volunteer car driver which they need immediately do contact Maureen if you can help 01424 883282. On Wednesday she was the Guest at Brede WI and received on behalf of the Clients at the Centre; games that the clients had chosen to the value of £200, which the WI raised by having a Coffee Morning earlier in the year. Maureen told the assembled members what happened at the Centre and thanked them on behalf of the Clients and said how much value and fun they would have with the new games. Monday early evening Rainbows gather at 4pm and Brownies meet later at 5.30pm both in the small hall of the Village Hall. Later in the same building Whist players begin their evening at 7.30pm.

At the Scout Hut Brede, Beavers open at 5.30pm and Cubs at 6.30pm. Anyone who has a daughter about 10½ who would like to be a Guide might like to know they meet at 7 15pm in Udimore Hall.

St George’s Day Tuesday 23 April. In Brede Village Hall Brede Luncheon Club opens it’s doors at 12 noon ready to sit down at 12.30pm for a lovely lunch and pudding and of course good company. In the Evening St George’s Church are holding a Patronal Festival beginning with a Eucharist at 7pm followed by St George’s supper in the Church (Donation only). Everyone is welcome. The next few events meet in Brede Village Hall Wednesday 24th April Crafters meet at 2pm. Thursday 25 April 9.30am – 10.30am Stretch and Tone. Friday morning Brede Farmers Market 10am – 12 noon

I have been asked by Charles McIndrick to give advance warning that a planned Neighbourhood Watch meeting which is to take place on Saturday 1 June Local MP’s and representatives from Crime prevention have been invited. Coffee and tea will be available to purchase - arranged by Brede WI. Please put the date in your diary.
