Boys arrested over Battle assault are re-bailed by police

TWO boys, arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm after a man was attacked with a piece of wood in Battle, have been re-bailed by police.

The youths, aged 13 and 14, were arrested after the victim was left laying in a pool of blood with a serious head injury after being attacked by a group of boys in Market Square car park on August Bank Holiday Monday.

Kent Air Ambulance was called to the scene but the injured man, aged 39 and from Battle, was taken by land ambulance to the Conquest Hospital in Hastings.

He was keep in overnight for observation and discharged the next day.

It is believed the victim and the alleged assailants were known to each other.

The two boys, who are local to Battle, answered police bail on Wednesday and have been re-bailed until December 7.

Neither has been charged with any offence.

Sergeant Dan Russell, of Battle police, said: “The inquiries are continuing.

“Witnesses continue to be spoken to and statements taken.

“We are grateful for the amount of witnesses who have come forward and are continuing to assist in this detailed investigation.”

At the time of the assault, police quashed rumours that the incident was a stranger attack.

They added that the incident was “very unusual” for Battle.
