Bookings worth a million pounds have been taken for the new Butlins hotel in Bognor Regis.

The Ocean Hotel is still nine weeks away from opening. But tourists are already anxious to experience its 200 bedrooms and spa facilities.

Jeremy Pardey, the resort director, said: "This shows there are a lot of people who want to come to Bognor on holiday, which is fantastic.

"The number of bookings is four times the value we had for the Shoreline Hotel at the same time before it opened four years ago."

Mr Pardey held his first open day on Sunday (June 7) to fill the 167 jobs on offer in the new hotel.

About 200 people turned up. "We recruited a really good number, and the majority of them come from the local area, which is good news for the town," said Mr Pardey.
