Bid to save Worthing centre

RESIDENTS are stepping up the fight to save a community 'jewel' in Worthing.

The Sidney Walter Centre in Sussex Road may end up housing the pupil-referral unit currently in Richmond Road but campaigners say that would effectively close the centre to the community.

More than 100 people attended a public meeting at the centre last Thursday.

Acting centre chairman Dave Aiseneault said: "It's a vital part of the community and we are fearful that this could end and it could end quite soon.

"Hundreds and hundreds of people pass through those doors every day '“ not just the elderly but right down to 13-year-old children."
