Bexhill to have its own 'adiZone'

WORK has begun in Egerton Park, Bexhill, to create a sports and games facilit marking the 2012 London Olympics.

The new 'adiZone' is designed to encourage more people into sport and will be built in the shape of the London 2012 logo. The scheme, one of only a handful in the region, will be a lasting legacy to the games.

Its name reflects the involvement of sports equipment giant Adidas, a major sponsor of the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Similar projects have already been piloted in the London's Olympic boroughs.

Rother District Council has secured a 75,000 grant from the Department for Children, Schools and Families for the Bexhill site.

It will provide an 18-station outdoor gym, two basketball courts, a football goal, tennis wall, a climbing wall and a freestyle-area for tae-kwondo, judo, gymnastics, dance and aerobics.

The scheme will help provide more activities for local teenagers, and being open to all, will boost council efforts to get more people active.
